My Bio
Uncovering the Purpose
A blog inspired by real-world experience and the desire to help students overcome hurdles and achieve their goals. This is me, my name is Olivia Brown, and I am a professor and program chair with over 20 years of experience teaching marketing and business management. I have witnessed all types of students, from those who achieve A’s to those who struggle until their last semester and ultimately drop out.
These experiences have given me a more profound appreciation for the challenges that today’s students face, such as limited resources, personal issues, mental health concerns, or simply being in school as a stopgap solution to satisfy parental pressure to continue their education.
I consider myself a forward-thinking and innovative educator. As a veteran educator and keen observer of the changing nature of education and the workforce, I see the need for continuous learning as well as the need to upskill and adapt to changing circumstances. I can count on my students to be adaptable, but I am not ? I must model the behavior. My focus and interest are in figuring out how students can learn new skills in a time- and cost-effective manner in the age of digital credentials, micro-courses, and other forms of alternative education.
As a professor, I’ve seen how digital disruption is affecting the status quo in the classroom, and I’m committed to guiding and assisting my students and colleagues as they navigate this transition.
Here is where 2 years of experience was born!
